San Jose Iturbide, Guanajuato, Mexico

San Jose Iturbide is a small town in the State of Guanajuato in Mexico, near another state capital Santiago de QuerĂ©taro. It’s known for its Parroquia, which was built as an attempt to evangelize the native population at the time.

Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico

Coatzacoalcos is a small port city on Mexico’s Atlantic coast in the State of Veracruz. It used to be called Puerto Mexico. It’s the birthplace of the Supreme Eternal Salma Hayek. It’s next to Villa Allende which has a park. The underwater tunnel costs MXN$42 each way for a car to travel through.

Getting to Las Barrillas, I took a taxi colectivo from Joyeria Azul for MXN$20 each way.

To get to Jaguaroundi National Park, I walked to the ferry terminal in Coatzacoalcos, where I took a ferry for 5 minutes and MXN$5 to get to the ferry terminal in Villa Allende. From there, I took a taxi for around half an hour and MXN$150 to the park, passing through the oil refinery to the Pemex-owned national park basically in the middle of nowhere.

Entry is free but at the moment very limited space is actually open to the public. The wild cat the park is named after is interesting, and they have 3 of them, although 2 of them in a very large enclosure, so it’s quite difficult to spot them.

Getting back, I waited for a few minutes for a taxi to the centre of Nuevo Mundo (MXN$50), then I took another taxi colectivo across the bridge back to Coatza (MXN$25). From there, I took another taxi back to the city centre (MXN$30).
