Huntsville/Space Camp, Alabama, USA 24 August 201922 April 2019 / Prof Hilary / Leave a comment There are several space camps in the United States, but the one in Huntsville is the only one available to adults. You can either do an adult space academy for 3 days, or space camp for educators for 6.The camp was quite fun and you get to do several things related to space, including 2 missions. The rocket launching.Nobody gets to do everything so even with different roles, it’s still possible to not really know what other people were doing.I’d recommend going though probably not staying in their dormitory. Their mattress gave me a backache. The ISS. We have unrestricted access to the museum (all hours). The space force is ready! Some fountain in the city. The main church in the city.A rocket.First mission as the pilot.Model of the moon rover.Vegetables growing without soil. When they came back from the Moon…The MAT.A team-building game.Second mission. The landmark. The habitat. Some trains. Some bank.Skylab.Thermal protection for the egg.Constitution house.TomcatGoing right back to Mexico.Rock climbingNative AmericanGraduationGravity machineGravity machine.Wearing the space suit.
Antarctica, Earth 8 June 20198 March 2019 / Prof Hilary / Leave a comment Antarctica, the last continent for me.It’s now a big destination, though tourists mostly only go to the King George Island area. This area is claimed by Chile, Argentina, the UK, and Brazil. The penguins kept pooping and the place smelt really bad.The southernmost Roman Catholic Church. Many penguins kept going into the sea.The amazing thing about this is that you get to be extremely close to the animals. The penguin colony is actually on another island.Next to the Russian Orthodox Church. The glacier opposite to the penguin colony. An elephant seal next to some penguins. There were 3 types of penguins seen. The Russian base’s cafeteria.Penguins climb all the way up because those spots were the first to melt. The Chilean village.Ancient trees. Possibly millions of years old.It was only -1 degrees. It was snowing but it’s quite manageable. The penguins kept calling, too.The Russians apparently didn’t want to take us there. And the weather was turning bad in the afternoon, when it started to rain.A dead chick. The gymnasium of the Chilean base. There’s a Movistar dish…It’s better to walk on the ice because the ground was quite muddy when it’s without stones. There’s a gift shop in the Russian area. The Russian and Chilean bases. The 3 types of penguins actually all went up to the Russian base. The private jet.And some Americans got married!!!There were some skeletons. The Chilean school.A huge elephant seal randomly in the Chilean village. The people there said it’s unusual. The Orthodox Church/jail. -82.862752 135.000000
